try doing this: shift+click mask or alt+click mask.

well the button is at the bottom of your layers' palette. it's the 3rd button from the left. if you don't have it since you are using ps elements, you can go Layer>Layer Mask>Reveal All. only do that with "Layer 2" selected. if you still can't do it, let me know! :)
